Why Can't I Just Finish This Book?

Have you ever had that happen with a book you're writing? Have you ever said to yourself, why can't I just finish this (insert expletive here) _____ book?

I didn't used to have this problem. I could plow out a book, edit it, submit it, and be on to the next one in the blink of an eye.  Why have I stopped being able to do it?

Well, because life became more complicated, my children's needs became more vast, and well I now have just about a million other things to distract me.

But I still really want to push out the stories with my hands shaking from the excitement of writing something really good. I don't want to have to start and stop.

So I'm going to have to readjust some things in my life and see what I can do.

  1. I'm feeling the same way right now. Hope you're able to get things sorted out and finish that __ book. :)

  2. This happened to me in the past and the thing I know is the things pressing on one pass and yes, new things do arrive. I always slow down at certain times of the year. So sort things our and take some deep breaths.

  3. I write in spurts. Some days I can write 10k without realizing it. Other days 2500k (my normal goal) requires me to grit my teeth. I don't fight the story, if it's not ready that day I have plenty of other things in my life ready to go.

  4. This describes the stage I am in perfectly. I miss having finished books and waiting for release day with that exuberance and wonder. I always thought once my kids were older I'd have so much extra time to write. But having a tween and a teen has taken a huge chunk of writing time away as I drive them all over the place all the time. I have books waiting to be completed and I miss the days when I could just sit down and let the muses free. If you find a way to reschedule the day to make writing one of the many priorities I'd be thrilled to try it out too. Good luck!
