Thank You to My Cover Artists

I don't now if readers know how the cover art on their books work. For me, since I am e-published, the way it has worked is that with each publisher, I have received a different cover artist for the book.

I've been very blessed because each artist is unique with their own style and it makes each of my books look very different from each other while each series continues to look similar so that it is easily identifiable as a series.

The Last Word

First I'd like to thank Rebecca for asking me to guest here at her blog today and share a freaky story with you. This one still stands out because it's personal to my family. See, my grandmother passed away when I was around 20 years old. She passed about nine months after my grandfather and family consensus was that she was heartbroken (though they fought like cats and dogs before they both got sick).

The family came together to clean out the house and disbursed the various items my grandparents had collected through the years. One of these items was a large picture my grandfather gave my grandmother. Now, it was well known through the family that my grandmother hated the picture, but my grandfather wouldn't let her get rid of it. My father brought it home and my mom put it on the mantel over the fireplace.

A few months later, my parents and I were sitting in our living room watching TV. It was a nice summer day where we could have the windows open and enjoy the sunshine. There wasn't a cloud in the sky and no breeze to be seen for miles. We were all watching TV when suddenly, the picture fell off the mantel and crashed through the wrought iron grate in front of the fireplace. Glass shattered everywhere and the picture was ruined because it now had a very nice, heavy piece of iron torn through the canvas.

It's a family joke now that grandma got the last word.

It's Thursday so I'm going to continue the process of introducing you to my work. This book was something I toyed with for a while. The Westervelt books focus, mainly, on the Kane family--the Royal family of the Westervelt pack. But I kept asking myself--what is the rest of the pack up to? The answer came to me in the form of a Holiday Call put up by Liquid Silver Books.

It seemed like the right time to tell Malcom's story. So while this book is a short story, found in the same world as the other Westervelt books, it doesn't get a number because it is technically out of synch with the rest of the world.

Jana thought she was through with Westervelt. Fleeing for her life thirty years ago, she's hidden as a human ever since. But a strangely worded Valentine delivered to her desk at work has given her pause.

Malcolm never expected to find his mate working for a crooked company he was sent to investigate in New York City. But there she is. Now, on Valentine's Day, the two will battle their attraction for each other while taking down a conglomerate built for the sole purpose of destroying the Westervelt Wolves.

Will love win the day?

Review: Book of Eli

I had the opportunity this weekend to watch the movie, Book of Eli, starring Denzel Washington. Actually, I got to watch it twice.

How did I watch it twice? Well, the first time I watched it was while the baby napped and DH had taken DS#1 and DS#2 to the movies to see Despicable Me. I bought it on DVR. So the second time I watched it was on Sunday when DH turned it on using the free replay to watch it again.

It was kind of funny to watch it twice.

The first time I saw it, as I sat near the baby monitor, anxious that any little noise might wake him up, I found that I didn't enjoy the movie all that much. I kept feeling like I was watching a post-apocalyptic western. Denzel, who is honestly such an amazing actor, kept meeting the bad guys in the middle of the street guns, or sometimes swords, drawn. I had a hard time getting into.

But when I watched it with my husband the next day, while someone else had the baby and the kids played in the playroom, I found that this time I could really suspend my disbelief and let the story take me with it--even knowing where it was going to go.

My opinion: It's a wild ride if you're in the right mood for it. And I still think it's a Western at heart. You just have to be in the mood to root for a gun slinger!

Not the Blog I Intended to Write

I had a blog posted for today where I went onto something of a rant about something that really, really bugged me yesterday. I've decided to delete that post because I think there is enough negativity out there and I don't need to add to it.

Let's all try to live our lives in the light. For today, it's enough.

So happy to report that I've just sold a short story entitled "Light Me Up" to Silver Publishing as part of their call for Christmas stories. Mine is actually a Hanukkah story but they took it anyway. (THANK YOU!) So pleased to be working with them.

It will be released December 6, 2010 so we'll talk more about it later. In the mean time I'm doing the Happy Chicken Dance.
