How do your stories come to you?

How do your stories come to you?

For me they stem from the characters. For example, right now as I write the last chapter of my work-in-progress, I am thinking of the next book in the series. I can see the beginning of the next book. The two characters meet in an odd way. I'm not entirely certain what happens next but I can see the 'meet.' Thats how my books get created.

How does it work for you?

  1. Hi Rebecca - saw your post on Twitter, thought I'd stop in as I'm out prowling late tonight. My stories come from my characters also. They drop in on me regardless of what I'm doing, but I love it. Sometimes as I'm searching for character pics...just a close look a their eyes and I can see a story form. Writing allows us an outlet to then create our own world for readers to visit when they can.

Ideas sometimes come from a picture of something when I think 'what if...' and the mind takes it from there. Thanks for letting me ramble on. Perhaps we'll meet out there sometime! Good luck with our writing and your book sales!

  2. Tonya,

Thanks so much for coming by. Yes! It is amazing. Staring in their eyes tells us what we need to know about them!

  3. My characters visit me in dreams and nightmares and tell me their story over the next few months.
I love it because they have minds of their own but hate it because constant dreams mean I barely ever get a decent night't sleep.

  4. Really? While you're sleeping? My dreams are too incoherent to be my stories. Thats so cool!!

  5. Haha Elora came from a dream. Well, several dreams.
I don't know if it's my photographic memory or what, but I wake up remembering almost every detail of my dreams.
The problem is when I have nightmares and night terrors and can't forget the details. If I could write horror, I'd never run out of ideas! :-D

  6. I had one come from a dream, but the story has changed so much since then.

I usually see scene flashes in my mind. Like a picture or short video clip. Then I work with my muse to create 'the rest of the story.'

Best ideas come from the shower. I always seem to be able to think things out in there. That is when the kids are not calling for me or interrupting when they have to pee. LOL!
